The Shield of Faith: 7 Arrows the Enemy Is Shooting at You Tonight — and How to Block Every One

Ephesians 6:16 gives us one of the most critical — and most overlooked — pieces of spiritual armor:

"Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one."

Above all. Not optional. Not secondary. ABOVE ALL — take the shield.

The Roman soldier's shield (the scutum) was not a small, handheld disc. It was a full-body shield — approximately 4 feet tall and 2.5 feet wide — covered in leather and soaked in water before battle. Why water? Because the enemy fired arrows tipped with pitch and set on fire.

A dry shield would catch fire. A water-soaked shield extinguished the flame on contact.

Your faith is that shield. And the enemy is firing fire-tipped arrows at you every single night. Here are the seven arrows — and how to block every single one.

ARROW 1: THE ARROW OF FEAR

Fear is not from God. 2 Timothy 1:7: "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."

The enemy fires this arrow at 2AM — the hour when your defenses are lowest. Suddenly you're afraid of things you weren't afraid of during the day. Fear of failure. Fear of sickness. Fear of losing what you've built. Fear of what might happen to your children.

The Shield Response: The Scripture Declaration

Speak it aloud: "God has not given me a spirit of fear. I have power. I have love. I have a sound mind. Fear — you have no legal right to my thoughts. I command you to leave in the name of Jesus."

Faith is not the absence of fear. Faith is speaking God's truth LOUDER than fear speaks lies.

ARROW 2: THE ARROW OF DISCORAGEMENT

This arrow doesn't scream — it whispers. "Nothing is changing. Your prayers aren't working. Look at everyone else succeeding while you're stuck. Maybe God forgot about you."

Discouragement is the enemy's favorite weapon against people on the verge of breakthrough. He used it on David at Ziklag (1 Samuel 30:6) — when everything was burned and the people talked of stoning him. But David "encouraged himself in the Lord."

The Shield Response: Speak to Your Own Soul

Psalm 42:11: "Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall yet praise Him."

Your soul responds to what you tell it. Speak to it. Command it: "Soul, you will not be discouraged. You will hope in God. You will praise Him. This is not the end — this is the setup for my testimony."

ARROW 3: THE ARROW OF CONFUSION

This arrow makes you doubt what you heard from God. "Did God really say that? Maybe you imagined it. Maybe you're on the wrong path. Maybe that wasn't God — maybe that was just your own thoughts."

This is the oldest arrow in the enemy's quiver. Genesis 3:1: "Did God really say...?" Same arrow. Same enemy. Same strategy.

The Shield Response: Write What God Said

Habakkuk 2:2: "Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it."

Write down what God told you. Put a date on it. When confusion comes, return to the record. The enemy cannot confuse someone who has documented what God spoke.

ARROW 4: THE ARROW OF SICKNESS

The enemy attacks the body because he knows: a sick body weakens a praying spirit. Chronic conditions. Symptoms that appear suddenly. Doctors' reports that make no sense. This arrow is designed to consume your prayer time with worry about your health.

The Shield Response: Isaiah 53:5 and 1 Peter 2:24

"By His stripes we are healed."

"By whose stripes you were healed." — past tense. The healing is already accomplished.

Your declaration: "Jesus already paid for my healing. I am not trying to GET healed — I am enforcing what was already purchased at the cross. Sickness, you have no legal right to this body. I serve Jesus — the name that equals 888 — and by His stripes, I AM healed."

ARROW 5: THE ARROW OF FINANCIAL ATTACK

The car breaks down the same week the bill is due. The opportunity falls through. The unexpected expense wipes out the savings. This is not coincidence — this is coordinated spiritual warfare against your resources.

Deuteronomy 28 describes the covenant of blessing — and the curse of poverty. Financial attack is a curse the enemy wants you to accept as "just life."

The Shield Response: Deuteronomy 8:18

"You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant."

Your declaration: "God gives me the POWER to create wealth. Poverty is not my portion. Lack is not my identity. The covenant of Abraham — which includes financial blessing — is my inheritance through Jesus Christ. I break every curse of poverty. I release the blessing of Deuteronomy 28 over my finances tonight."

ARROW 6: THE ARROW OF DIVISION

Marriages under attack. Children rebelling. Family members not speaking. Church splits. This arrow targets your relationships because the enemy knows: isolated believers are vulnerable believers.

Ecclesiastes 4:12: "A threefold cord is not quickly broken."

The Shield Response: Matthew 18:18

"Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

Your declaration: "I bind the spirit of division operating against my marriage, my family, and my relationships. I loose the spirit of unity, love, and reconciliation. Every assignment of the enemy to divide what God has joined together — I cancel it now in the name of Jesus. What God put together, the enemy will not tear apart."

ARROW 7: THE ARROW OF DELAYED BREAKTHROUGH

This is the most dangerous arrow because it doesn't look like an attack — it looks like normal life. "It's been years. Maybe this is just how it is. Maybe the breakthrough isn't coming. Maybe you should lower your expectations."

Daniel prayed for 21 days before the answer arrived (Daniel 10:12-13). The angel was dispatched on DAY ONE — but the prince of Persia (a demonic principality) delayed the delivery. Daniel didn't know what was happening in the spirit realm. He just kept praying.

If Daniel had stopped on day 20, he would have missed the answer that had already been sent on day 1.

The Shield Response: Galatians 6:9

"Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."

Your declaration: "I will not lose heart. The breakthrough was released the day I prayed. If there is spiritual resistance delaying the manifestation, I break it now. Principalities, powers, rulers of darkness — you cannot stop what God has already dispatched. My due season is now. I will reap. I will not give up."

HOW TO ACTIVATE THE SHIELD TONIGHT

Step 1: Identify the Arrow

Which of the seven arrows has been hitting you? Name it specifically. The enemy's power is in anonymity — when you name the attack, you expose it.

Step 2: Speak the Counter-Scripture

Every arrow has a corresponding scripture. Speak it aloud. Not silently — aloud. Romans 10:17: "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Your ears need to hear your mouth speak God's Word.

Step 3: Raise the Shield Before Sleep

Before you sleep tonight, pray this aloud:

Father, I take up the shield of faith. I soak it in the water of Your Word. Every fiery arrow the enemy fires at me tonight — fear, discouragement, confusion, sickness, financial attack, division, and delayed breakthrough — I quench it now in the name of Jesus. The shield of faith extinguishes every flame before it reaches me. I sleep under divine protection. I wake under divine favor. AMEN.
